Web Site Queries

Q. Why should I have a Web Site for my business ? I'm only a small, independant, one man business.

Quite simply, every business should have an Internet presence (of course, we would say that). Would you consider running your business without a telephone ? No ? Of course not and it would be stupid to have a telephone without putting the number on your business cards/letter heads etc. and to make it ex-directory. The Internet has the largest possible audience and they can see what your company is all about any time day or night. What's more, they have no idea of the size of your business. It doesn't matter. If you have what they are looking for and are able to convey it, you're half way there. It is the cheapest form of 24 hour advertising available today. It's interactive and can be changed very quickly - daily if necessary.

Q. How do I know what I need on my Web Site. I am a complete novice at this internet business. I know my business and I don't have the time or inclination to find out.

That's what we are here for. Building appropriate, tailor made web sites is our job. We will advise you on it's content based upon the information that you supply on your business. Infact, the only information we require from you is a detailed as possible insight into your market, your products and/or services. We'll do the rest.

Q. Once I have my Web Site up and running what, if any, support do you give ?

We give free up-dates (excluding reworking, price or product change) for six months after we have up-loaded your site. In addition, we give "Lifetime" Technical support on any subject related to your site via e-mail. If you want regular changes, additions, continued site promotion etc. we offer very competitive Site Management Programs tailored to you. You need never be on your own.

Q. I already have a Web Site but it's looking a little long in the tooth. Do you offer any concessions for reworking ?

Yes, if you already have a Web Site but wish us to give it a make-over, we offer up to 50% off of our normal rates. This is subject to the amount of reworking involved. Please contact us for details.

Q. Do I need a computer to have a Web Site for my business ?

No, not at all, but it would help if you want to send and receive e-mail.

Q. How much does it cost to have space for a Web Site ?

It doesn't have to cost anything at all. There is nothing wrong with using a "free"* ISP. They will usually give you at least 10meg of web space with your account. This can be used for business but will almost certainly not give you statistics, CGI bins, e-commerce facility etc.

Q. Do I need to be a Computer wiz to keep an eye on my Web Site and to send and receive e-mail.

No. It will be necessay to learn a few basic tips but essentially everything is taken care of by the software used. We do (for an additional charge) visit you to set up your Internet Software and give basic instruction to you and your staff.

*no charge for using their facilities - e-mail, web space, gateway (connection to the Internet).

Charges

Charges are based purely and simply on the quantity and complexity of work. Every site is unique. We will gladly meet any written quotation on a like-for-like basis. Please see our pricing pages for details.

Q. How do you promote a Web Site ?

We have detailed information on Web Site promotion here.

Use of e-mail

Q. Do you have any tips for using e-mail ?

Yes, the best tips we can offer are: compose your e-mail off-line and send all at once, this reduces telephone charges. The second is, that in general, you should avoid sending e-mail in anything other than plain text. This reduces file size and of course download time. It's also guaranteed 100% readable by anyone. Sending e-mail in HTML should only be done if you know the recipient has the facility to receive it and if they have the time.

Recommended Browsers

Q. Which Browser do you recommend ?

We recommend Microsoft Internet Explorer as the best Browser. In our opinion it has been since version 4.5 (now 6). Purely and simply it offers the greatest functionality and speed. It is also more forgiving of poor coding - something you will come across all to often - it is very intuitive and so will understand what the programmer was trying to do.
Netscape Navigator is a very close second but hasn't been keeping up with Internet Explorer. It's display of background colours and pictures in tables is poor for example.
